State lawmaker seeks to open door for local assault weapon bans

Just weeks after a federal appeals court upheld a city ordinance that prohibits firearms deemed to be assault weapons; an Illinois lawmaker is seeking the same allowance for other municipalities in the Land of Lincoln.

In the Land of Lincoln Gov. Pat Quinn is backing legislation to ban so-called assault weapons, large magazines, and .50 caliber rifles and cartridges to "save lives and protect communities."

Concealed Carry comes to Illinois: General assembly shoots down Governor’s veto (VIDEO)

On Tuesday, the Illinois General Assembly overrode Gov. Pat Quinn's amendatory veto of the concealed carry bill. Moving forward, law-abiding gun owners will be able to carry a concealed firearm in the Land of Lincoln.
