A federal judge agreed to hear arguments to quash charges in a libel case against George Fennell, the owner of a lubricant company accused of starting the rumor that FireClean is Crisco cooking oil.

Ever since the chemical composition of FireClean gun oil was juxtaposed with multiple types of Crisco cooking oil, the lube maker said it has lost more than $25,000 a month in revenue.

Lubricant maker sues for likening gun oil to Crisco

FireClean filed libel claims against two groups -- Vuurwapen Blog and Steel Shield Tech -- that, through their own testing, said the chemical makeup of the company’s staple product was akin to the popular cooking oil.
