Youth Turkey Off to a Great Start!
Wichita, KS -(AmmoLand.com)- Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors opened the Youth Turkey Season with some great hunts this past weekend!
For the 14th year running, Dan Bell/Bell Wildlife Specialties hosted a youth turkey hunt at his lodge in Harveyville, KS. We had mentors and youth hunters from Topeka, Emporia and Wichita converge on Dan’s place for a great weekend of turkey hunting.
16-year old Krystianna, on her first ever turkey hunt, brought home the biggest tom ever bagged during our 14 years of hunting with Dan, Weighing over 23 pounds with a 10″ beard and long spurs, the bird scored 71.25 points, more than qualifying Krysti for the KS record book!
Dary Southwick, owner of Agua Ramon Lodge, hosted 2 young hunters at his beautiful facility in Jewel County. Both Jacob and Brandon tagged nice birds!
Dary has hosted Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors hunters for deer and turkey hunts on his property for several years now, giving kids great outdoor experiences.
Michael Pearce took 16-year old Nastosha on her first turkey hunt along with her Outdoor Mentor Heather. They tagged two jakes, one on a morning hunt and the other on an afternoon hunt the same day. Nastosha and Heather also went pheasant hunting last December and both of them bagged roosters on that hunt.
Nastosha, Brandon and Jacob are all lucky enough to have Outdoor Mentors who are sharing their love of the outdoors with these kids. Many of the other kids we have had out, like Jackson and Krystianna, don’t have mentors. We need many more men and women to step forward and give these kids the opportunity to experience the thrill of a spring turkey hunt like these kids had this last weekend. Even those kids who didn’t tag a bird are eager to go again. Montez, the young man I hunted with, said he couldn’t wait to come back to Harveyville and hunt again. Without a mentor stepping up to give him that opportunity, that might not happen.
There are thousands of children all across the country who would love to have an Outdoor Mentor, someone who would take them hunting and fishing and shooting and share their love of the outdoors.
Will you step up and make that happen for one of these kids?

About Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors:
Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors is a Wichita, Kansas-based national organization dedicated to providing children with mentors who will share with them the experiences of traditional outdoor activities. The heart of the group’s mission is to give children opportunities to connect with nature that they more than likely won’t have without a mentor showing them the way. Partnering with organizations with like-minded conservation and youth participation efforts like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pheasants Forever, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Delta Waterfowl, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the National Wild Turkey Federation, among others, volunteers with a passion for the outdoors can give a child the chance to go fish, hunt, or simply spend time in the fields with a caring adult.
