A 25-year-old man was shot and killed after breaking into an Odessa, Texas, home early Sunday morning.
The homeowner awakened around 4:30 a.m. to the sounds of someone banging loudly at the front door. The woman woke up her husband, Raul Munoz, who armed himself with a gun.
Soon thereafter, the suspect successfully gained entry into the home. Munoz told police the intruder rushed him and that’s when he fired.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered the intruder suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as 25-year-old Jake Gould.
Marcey Love, who is a Munoz family friend, said the couple is absolutely devastated over the incident, and is asking for prayers for themselves as well as Gould’s family and friends.
Shannell George, Gould’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his 2-year-old son, said he was not the kind of person that would break into someone’s home to steal anything, but rather she believes he had been drinking that night and simply went to the wrong house.
Nonetheless, Corporal Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department said, “It’s important to know that if someone does make entry into your residence you do have the right to defend yourself and use whatever force necessary including deadly force.”
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Gould.
