A woman in Southeastern Indiana shot and killed a man who was fighting with a conservation officer Monday afternoon.
The officer responded to a suspicious person call at around 12:30 p.m. Monday in Rising Sun, Indiana — just outside Cincinnati. According to a news release from Indiana State Police, the unnamed officer made contact with Justin Holland, 25, and the two men started fighting. A woman who lived nearby came upon the two men as Holland was overtaking the officer. She fired her own gun at Holland at least one time and hit him in the torso. Witnesses gave Holland first aid, and he was taken to the hospital where he died.
An autopsy Tuesday morning confirmed that a single gunshot wound was the cause of death. Toxicology results were pending.
The officer was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and state police are investigating the incident.
Police say the identity of the woman and the officer will not be released pending the outcome of the investigation.
Earlier reports from police claimed Holland was 32, but he was, in fact, 25.
