Woman sentenced for attempting to shoot sister in elementary school

Barbara Grice

A Foley, Alabama, woman must serve a 36 month sentence after she pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in a school zone, the Justice Department announced Friday.

Barabara Grice entered the cafeteria at the Elberta Elementary School around 1:25 p.m. on February 25, 2015. Grice, who was armed with a .38 caliber revolver, then shot at her sister, an employee at the school. Grice missed and her sister was unharmed, but the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Elberta Police Department were already en route after receiving calls about an active shooter situation at the school.

When authorities arrived on the scene, Grice was still holding the handgun as they approached her. After officers told her several times to drop the gun, she eventually complied and was taken into custody.

Grice pleaded guilty to the charges in November.
