Witnesses cheer as Miami police arrest looters during Irma (VIDEO)

As thousands helped one another while weathering the storm, a few dozen people helped themselves to merchandise in Miami businesses during Hurricane Irma. When some of those looters were caught by police, onlookers applauded and cheered, as seen in the above video.

The looting in Miami was happening for about an hour before the arrests were made, but at least two of the suspects were captured just moments after leaving a sporting goods store with armloads of loot. In fact, police cars were pulling up as the suspects were driving away.

One reporter said he saw dozens of vehicles drive up to the same store, with looters running in and coming out with arm loads of shoes and clothing. Other looters took items from a Miami Foot Locker.

In addition, a 17-year-old boy suspected of burglarizing a home during the hurricane was shot during a confrontation with police. Authorities were alerted to the break-in after the teen was captured on surveillance video, which was viewed by the homeowners from a remote location.
