USA -(AmmoLand.com)- Wingshooting USA TV fans asked for a chance to “do good,” so show host Scott Linden got to work and the result is the first annual “Fur Feathers Friends” event.
Scheduled for Nov. 11-12 at Ravenwood Lodge near Topeka, Kansas, fans will converge to host retired and active-duty military for two days of bird hunting, target shooting and camaraderie, with dogs as the bond.
“Upland hunters know how important their four-footed companions are to them,” Linden said. “Now, we can share their magic with others in the field and after the hunt.”
Ravenwood owner Ken Corbet has hosted military groups for several years, and last year Linden participated and produced an episode with the group Heroes Among Us. It was well-received by fans and was the impetus for the bigger event, he said.
Discussion began in social media, Linden conducted a survey, and Wingshooting USA fans overwhelmingly voted for military as the beneficiary of the event, Kansas as the location, and early November for the date. In a bit of serendipity, the event takes place on Veterans’ Day weekend, which is also opening weekend of Kansas pheasant season. Linden will produce an episode of his show from the event, to air mid-2017.
Field hunts, a European-style driven hunt, sporting clays, and fellowship opportunities are scheduled throughout the weekend. Current and former military members from all branches of service will be guests of Wingshooting USA fans, who will hunt alongside them with their dogs.
Fan signup and more information are available at https://furfeathersfriends.eventbrite.com. Veterans and active-duty military guests will sign up beginning in August.
Wingshooting USA is the official TV series of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, airing on 11 television networks and is the longest-running and most-watched upland bird hunting TV series in the U.S.
