Winchester expands lever-action lineup with Model 1866 Short Rifle

Winchester brings back an old favorite for 2017, reintroducing the legendary Model 1866 rifle now in a Grade I Short Rifle.

The Model 1866 was the first rifle to tout the Winchester brand and its bright brass receiver was the basis for the “Yellow Boy” nickname. Winchester’s latest short rifle version is aimed at casual shooters, competitors and hunters who are looking to pink on the range with a lever-action classic.

Boasting a barrel length of 20-inches, the average weight is just over 7 pounds. The receiver, crescent buttplate and forearm cap are constructed from solid brass with a bright polish finish. The stock and forearm are American black walnut finished with a satin oil. The rifle is equipped with a folding ladder rear sight and Marble Arms gold beat front sight. Also included in the rifle’s design is a full-length magazine tube, open top ejection port and blued steel loading gate.

Available in 44-40 Win and 38 Special calibers, the Model 1866 Short Rifle is priced at $1,299.99.
