COLLEGE STATION, Texas –-(Ammoland.com)- Cadet Zach Williams of Weatherford, Texas, was named the Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit (CCMU), at Texas A&M University, Outstanding Cadet of the Year during the Corps of Cadets annual Athletics Banquet.
Cadet Williams, Class of 2016, is a true freshman at Texas A&M, an Aerospace Engineering major and holds a GPA of 3.651. He is attending Texas A&M on a four year scholarship from the United States Air Force.
With no prior competitive shooting experience, Cadet Williams joined the CCMU in the Fall of 2012. At the Scholastic Pistol Program Nationals at Ft Benning in March, Cadet Williams firing a Glock 34, finished as the high overall individual shooter at the match, narrowly edging his team commander Cadet Matt Hawes, by just 1/100th of a second. One week later, at the Smith & Wesson Joint Service Academy Match, Cadet Williams was awarded for taking 5th overall among individual shooters in the match.
Cadet Williams was also appointed as the 2013/2014 CCMU Executive Officer where he will assist the incoming team commander, Cadet Tyler Toppenberg ’15.
The CCMU was officially formed in December of 2011, but today’s squad represents the latest in over 100 years of history of marksmanship teams competing for the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. The CCMU fields competitors in the action pistol sports, steel pistol sports, 3-gun, highpower and international trap and skeet. Team members are drawn exclusively from the 2,200 men and women of the Corps of Cadets who are all undergraduates at Texas A&M. Scholarships and in-state tuition are also available for CCMU cadets.
