Europe’s Most Popular Driven Hunting Brand Launches in the U.S.
DENVER – -(Ammoland.com)- Driven wild boar hunting in Europe is one of the most-popular and exciting hunting methods in the world. On July 7 at 6 p.m., Outdoor Channel will introduce North American audiences to this heart-pounding style of hunting by launching the brand that is unmistakably-recognized around the world as the most spectacular portrayal of driven game hunting – Wild Boar Fever.
Wild boar hunting in Europe involves more than a bolt-action rifle and steady nerves. A driven hunt pushes boar towards hunters from their daytime cover using specially-trained dogs and a team of fearless beaters. Wild boar are smart, sit tight and often double back behind the beating line making this a complicated exercise. The hunters shoot the boar with single shots from bolt action rifles as they run through the gun line. This style of hunting is the most popular method in Europe because – not only is it a highly-effective means of managing a growing and menacing population – it is a fast-paced, challenging and a thrilling way of shooting game on the run.
Driven hunts result in a substantial meat harvest of the destructive wild boar and conclude in a deeply traditional ceremony. The harvested game is gathered together and laid out in a tableau, then honored by horn-blowing and speeches. These traditions date back hundreds of years and have never been seen on North American television…until now.
Wild Boar Fever (July 7 at 6 p.m. ET) captures this exhilarating style of hunting through the lens of conservationist, popular host and expert marksman Franz Albrecht Oettingen-Spielberg. Driven hunting is one of the most difficult forms of shooting. Oettingen-Spielberg will not only introduce new viewers to the intricacies of this form of hunting, the difficulty involved, and safety needed in shooting a running boar, he will educate and help viewers understand the conservation, meat harvesting, land and animal management issues involved in this process. Joining Oettingen-Spielberg in this series are seasoned hunters from around the globe, including Nebraska-based American Neil Davies, French wildlife ranger Feliew, South African hunter Marco Van Niekerk, Swedish shooting instructor Alexander Nordin and German-based firearms expert Frederic Hanner.
“Exclusively debuting the Wild Boar Fever brand, introducing Franz and this group of international hunters, and telling the story behind this traditional form of hunting is very exciting for us,” Outdoor Sportsman Group Senior Vice President and General Manager of MyOutdoorTV, Sean Luxton said. “Outdoor Sportsman Group and its networks, magazines and digital assets lead the world in providing outdoor lifestyle content. Wild Boar Fever is a perfect example of how we are bridging the distance between global hunters regardless of whether they wear camo, tweed or any other form of traditional hunting clothing.”
