United States –-(Ammoland.com)- “Whitey” over at Four Guys Guns posted a great piece up the other day talking about why they got into gun blogging… and why they are still into it. You should go check it out.
As for me, I have said it before and I will say it again… I got into this whole gun blogging thing because it was really just a natural extension of my hobby. I love shooting, I love guns, I practice concealed carry every day, and I have always enjoyed the online firearms community (reading blogs, forums, and what-not). It was just an inevitable progression to go ahead and do a blog of my own.
It’s been fun, and it has made my hobby even more fun. I get the chance to stay on top of all the things that are going on in the industry (sometimes before companies even go public with the info) as well as all the goings-on in the online firearms community. I have companies send me new products from time to time to give my opinions on (sometimes before they are even available to buy). That’s something that is definitely pretty cool and it certainly makes my range time even more fun.
I also get a little bit of financial compensation for running my blog. Yes, people pay me to put their ads on my blog. No, it’s not quit your job kind of money… and it probably never will be. I honestly don’t think that anybody is ever gonna get rich by running a gun blog/website, so if that’s your goal then take it from me and don’t even bother. Those ads do, however, give me a little bit of extra money for ammo (and believe me, every penny gets turned into ammo), which again makes my range time that much more fun.
The bottom line here I guess is that gun blogging is fun. Yeah, I could certainly make a lot more money blogging about a different topic that would surely bring in much higher traffic numbers. It would probably also lead to an actual quit your job type of opportunity, but that would probably not be very much fun after a while. If this whole gun blogging thing ever becomes not-fun I will probably lay it down for a while and come back to it later… or maybe not come back at all. For now, I am having fun with it… I enjoy everything about it, and I have been very happy that I got into it.
If you too are passionate about firearms and you think that sharing your thoughts and opinions on firearms with the world would be fun… Then you should really consider trying your hand at this whole gun blogging thing. It doesn’t take much of anything to go over to Word Press or Blogger and set up shop. It’s an enjoyable hobby in and of itself and it’s something that definitely adds to the overall enjoyment of being a Gun Nut.
Shoot me an email if you have any questions or if I can ever be of any help to you. And if you ever just want to share your new blog with me, I’d love to check it out.
