A recent study published in Injury Prevention indicated one in three Americans are gun owners, but the rate of gun ownership across the 50 states varies tremendously.
Alaska took the lead with nearly 62 percent of residents owning guns, followed by Arkansas at 57.9 percent, and Idaho at 59.6 percent. The state with the lowest rate of gun ownership was Deleware with just over 5 percent of residents owning guns. Rhode Island came in second fewest number of gun owners at 5.8 percent.
The percentages were calculated using information gathered through a survey of 4,000 adults, but of course, it’s all just estimates because with no national gun registry the actual rate of gun ownership cannot accurately be counted.
