A 32-year-old man was shot at a home outside of Poulsbo, Washington, Sunday when, according to the homeowner, he was acting in a threatening manner after the homeowner’s female houseguest accused the man of raping her, the North Kitsap Herald reported.
Following a birthday party which included a night of drinking, the homeowner offered to let the man and the woman, who were not previously acquainted, stay the night at his house. The spare bedroom was given to the female and the couch was offered to Marshaun Jeron T. Thompson.
However, the homeowner said he was awakened twice around 2:00 a.m. by noises coming from downstairs, both times he went to investigate. He noticed that Thompson had moved from the couch into the spare room where the woman had been sleeping. He said he heard what sounded like kissing noises coming from the room and he could hear the woman say “no” and “stop, it hurts.”
Since the two guests were adults and he believed they could handle the situation themselves, the homeowner went back upstairs, told his fiancé what had happened and went back to sleep.
Sometime later, the woman ran into the homeowner’s bedroom, crying and claiming that Thompson had raped her. The homeowner’s fiancé then took the woman to the hospital, while the homeowner confronted Thompson about the allegations.
Thompson claimed the sex was consensual and that the woman came on to him. “Naturally, I’m a man, and I didn’t stop,” Thompson said, according to the homeowner.
The homeowner then called 911 to report the alleged rape and that’s when Thompson became hostile and agitated and refused to leave the home. While still on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, the homeowner said Thompson began to act in a threatening manner, prompting him to shoot Thompson.
Thompson then ran out of the house and the police found him walking down a street near the home. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for the non-life threatening gunshot wound which entered his chest and exited through his left arm.
When questioned by investigators, Thompson again claimed that the sex was consensual, and in fact claimed he never even went to sleep on the couch but rather slept in the room with the woman. Once asleep, the woman woke him up and started kissing him, Thompson told authorities.
Likewise, Thompson said he wasn’t acting in a hostile manner either and the homeowner shot him for no reason while they were standing in the kitchen.
The woman told investigators that Thompson came into the bedroom and woke her up, telling her “shh” while he began to grope her. She said she told Thompson no at least 20 times, but he proceeded to have sex with her anyway. The woman also claims that following the incident Thompson said, “I suppose you are going to say I raped you and I might was well turn myself in now.”
Thompson now faces third-degree rape charges and is being held with a $50,000 bond.
Authorities have also determined that the shooting was justified.
