A man dressed in a Santa suit was shot with a pellet gun as he handed out presents to children in Washington, D.C. Christmas Eve morning.
Xavier Hawkins was being interviewed for the Barry Farm gift giveaway in Southeast Washington when he was struck in the back by a pellet. The round lodged between his shoulder blades, but he still wanted to continue with the toy giveaway, WJLA reports.
“I felt the burning,” Hawkins said. “Thank God I’m living and it’s not a real gun … I’m very grateful that no one else got hit, especially the kids.”
Hawkins wanted to continue with the festivities, but medical personnel said he needed to be treated. He was transported to an area hospital and released several hours later.
