Orange, Virginia – -(Ammoland.com)- The Virginia Shooting Sports Association (VSSA) applauds Governor Bob McDonnell’s signing of House Bill 940, Delegate Scott Lingamfelter’s bill repealing Virginia’s handgun rationing law.
“Today is a victory for law abiding gun owners in the Commonwealth,” said David Adams, VSSA’s Legislative Committee Chairman.
“VSSA would like to thank Governor McDonnell for keeping his promise to repeal this unnecessary and ineffective law. There has never been any evidence that restricting handgun sales to one per month did anything but impact the ability of lawful gun owners to exercise their right to keep and bear arms. In fact, the gun ban lobby continues to use “gun running” from Virginia to points north, the reason that one gun-a-month was passed almost 20 years ago, as the reason restrictions on the private sale of firearms are needed.”
Virginia is the second state to repeal a gun rationing scheme, following South Carolina, which repealed their law in 2004.The repeal of Virginia’s law will take affect on July 1.
