Utah-(Ammoland.com)- USSC is proud to announce that Representative Lee Perry (Republican, District 29) will be the sponsor of the Commonsense Carry (permit-less carry) bill this year. This is especially newsworthy because Perry is a Utah Highway Patrol Lieutenant, and when he first was elected to the Legislature in 2010 he was opposed to many of USSC’s gun rights efforts.

However, in a rare move for a political figure, he has admitted that his early opposition was based on misconceptions and misinformation and he now agrees that Utah’s law abiding gun owners are not a problem. In fact, he has been very impressed with their good behavior and support for law enforcement. He believes that since anyone who can legally purchase or possess a gun can already legally carry it openly, then there is no reason that they should not be allowed to have it covered if they desire. He also notes that the bad guys do not obey any of the gun control laws, so pretending that this would help criminals just does not make sense.

Representative Perry was on the Rod Arquette show and also “Gun Radio Utah” this week explaining his stance. USSC is glad to be working with Representative Lee Perry, and we hope that his support will help convince Gov. Herbert to finally sign Commonsense Carry when it passes again in the 2017 session. YOUR help will be needed to get it passed and signed, so look for future alerts.
