Lexington, KY –-(AmmoLand.com)- The nation’s leading anti-hunting organization, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is attempting to make further inroads with American youth to advance their agenda.

The latest action includes being the presenting sponsor for a youth convention hosted by the EQUUS Foundation and the U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF). The USEF is considered the national governing body for the equestrian sport.

The 2010 event is scheduled to take place January 16th at the Louisville Marriott Downtown in Kentucky. According to the U.S. Equestrian Federation, the event is designed to bring together “youth from around the country and helps to nurture and develop a growing interest in equestrian sport.”

However, the fact U.S. Equestrian Federation is allowing the Humane Society of the United States to play a prominent role in the event raises troubling questions for sportsmen, especially given the event’s focus on youth.

Alerted to this by concerned members, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) has attempted to make contact with the President of U.S. Equestrian Federation through phone calls and a formal letter that was faxed and sent overnight on December 23.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance made clear its desire that U.S. Equestrian Federation reconsider its relationship with Humane Society of the United States as a result of its clear anti-hunting agenda, an agenda that would negatively impact many thousands of equestrians and Houndsmen. A deadline of January 4 for a response was included in the letter. As of press time, the USSA has not received a response.

“Given that many sportsmen are accomplished equestrians, it is worrisome that the U.S. Equestrian Federation is not only associating with a group dedicated to ending the very traditions embraced by so many, but is also giving the Humane Society of the United States an opportunity to target the next generation” said Bud Pidgeon, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance president and CEO.

“The USSA sincerely hopes U.S. Equestrian Federation will alter its decision. We will continue to keep sportsmen aware of this situation.”
