TRCP Names New Interim Board Chairman
Co-founder Dr. Rollin Sparrowe to succeed the late James D. Range.
WASHINGTON – -(OutDoorWire.com)- The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) has announced that Dr. Rollin Sparrowe has been named the interim chairman of its board of directors.
Following a vote by the board, Dr. Sparrowe, of Daniel, Wyoming, will assume immediately the post left vacant by the passing of close friend and fellow TRCP co-founder James D (Jim) Range.
“Jim Range’s untimely passing has left a void inside every single one of us who had the good fortune to call him a friend, as well as in the larger community of American conservationists,” Dr. Sparrowe said. “It also has left the TRCP Board of Directors without its chairman. If I can facilitate the work of the board with a mere fraction of the adeptness with which Jim guided it, I will consider my efforts an absolute success.”
“The TRCP could not have done better than having Dr. Sparrowe step up to lead as interim chair,” said board member James T. Martin of the Berkley Conservation Institute. “Rollie was instrumental in the formation of the organization and enjoys the confidence of staff, funders, conservation partners and the rest of our board. With his experience at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Wildlife Management Institute, Rollie is D.C.-savvy and has the scientific, conservation and organizational credentials to help TRCP move forward in the spirit that would have made Jim Range proud.”
“As TRCP has made gains in fulfilling its mission to guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish, we have done so on a course set by giants in the world of fish and wildlife conservation. Jim was one of those giants and Rollie is another,” said TRCP President and CEO George Cooper. “We at the TRCP are so sad to have lost Jim but heartened by the knowledge, and very proud of the fact, that TRCP embodied Jim’s vision for how we get to conserving this nation’s fish and wildlife resources with more foresight.”
The TRCP board will meet in April 2009 and elect a new chairman.
