Tip the ATF anonymously with phone app (VIDEO)

The federal agency tasked with investigating gun crimes can now be accessed via a mobile app.

The app, reportit, which allows users to anonymously report tips, now connects directly to the ATF, according to the agency’s announcement.

“With reportit concerned citizens can report suspicious or unusual activities in real time while having the assurance that your identity will remain anonymous and confidential,” the ATF says.

The app allows users to submit a tip and attach a photo or video, and then the information is forwarded in real time. The time and location are also included in the tip. However, the ATF asks in cases of an emergency that users call 911.

According to the Q&A portion of the announcement, the system does not track users information but rather tips are categorized by a unique ID that has no connection to the device or IP address.

However, if a users wants to submit contact information, the option is available. Also, if an award is offered, the user will be informed how to claim it.

The reportit app works with both Android and iPhone operating systems.
