COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –-(Ammoland.com)- Three-time Olympian Daryl Szarenski (WCAP/Seale, Ala.) scored a sixth-place showing at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) “London Prepares” World Cup in the Men’s 50-meter Free Pistol Event.

With heavy rain and cold weather permeating the London Olympic venue, Szarenski earned the USA Shooting Team’s seventh top-eight finish of the London World Cup with three days remaining.

Szarenski, who has earned a spot on his fourth Olympic Team after winning the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Air Pistol, had a bad final round in qualifying after scoring an uncharacteristic 88 points, which ultimately weakened his ability for medal contention.

He earned his way into the finals in a shoot-off with five other competitors and rebounded with a third-best finals score of 96.6 points.

Teammates Jason Turner (Rochester, N.Y.) and Nick Mowrer (Butte, Mont.) finished 17th and 46th respectively.

Despite the wet, soggy conditions in London, Men’s and Women’s Trap qualifying rounds began today as well with Collin Weitfeldt (Hemlock, Mich.) recording 47 out of a possible 50 hits through two rounds for the U.S. Men’s Team. Teammates Jake Turner (Richland, Wash.) and Ryan Hadden (USAMU/Pendleton, Ore.) scored 46 and 45 points over their two rounds of action. Kayle Browning (Wooster, Ark.) shot a first-round score of 24 out of a possible 25 targets to lead the U.S. Women while Caitlin Barney Weinheimer (Kerrville, Texas) sits just behind with 23 points. Recent World Cup victor and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Corey Cogdell (Eagle River, Alaska) struggled and missed six of her 25 targets for 19 points.

Thursday’s World Cup events will feature finals action in Women’s Trap as well as Women’s 50m 3-Position Rifle. Also on tap will be more qualifying rounds for Men’s Trap and the start of Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol.

All fifteen of the ISSF Olympic shooting events – in the disciplines of Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun shooting – will be conducted during the test event that runs through April 28.

The 2012 ISSF “London Prepares” World Cup schedule:

  • Thursday, April 26 Women’s 50m 3P Rifle, Women’s Trap, Men’s Trap, Men’s 25m Pistol
