Think of the Kalashnikov SVC sniper rifle as the Dragunov 3.0 (VIDEO)

Kalashnikov Group’s new SVC Chukavin is a semi-auto designated marksman rifle that aims to build on the old SVD’s rep but with modern features.

The SVC (with SV= Snayperskaya Vintovka, or Sniper Rifle) was introduced last year as the SVK and is shown off in the above video at the Russian Army-2017 International Military-Technical Forum this month. Designed with input from Russki snipers, in its 7.62x54R version the rifle uses the standard Dragunov SVD magazines though adds a folding stock, polymer furniture, and a Picatinny rail.

Introduced in the 1960s, the Dragunov replaced the old Mosin M1891 sniper rifles.

When compared to the upgraded SVDM, which you can think of as the SVD 2.0, the new SVC is shorter and lighter.

Kalash is also marketing the SVC in 7.62x51mm NATO complete with 15 and 20 round mags. Too bad about those sanctions.
