The annual NRA meeting normally sees a ton of new guns unveiled to the public. Here are some that should have been there this year had the show gone on without a hitch.
FN 503

The new FN 503 has a 3.1-inch barrel with recessed target crown which contributes to a 5.9-inch overall length. Some 4.6 inches high, the gun is slim– with a width of 1.1 inches overall. Weight is 21-ounces. For comparison, this puts the new FN in the roughly same size envelope as Glock’s single-stack 9mm, the G43.

FN 509 Midsize MRD, now in FDE

FN announced this month that they have debuted a new flat dark earth version of their 509 Midsize MRD pistol.
The 9mm FN 509 Midsize MRD, which comes standard with FN’s Low Profile Optics Mounting System, has a slide that allows the user’s choice of more than 10 different miniature red dot optics. Pitched for the carry market, the 509 Midsize features a 4-inch barrel and a 7.4-inch overall length.
Weight is 26.5-ounces and, with a 5.2-inch height, uses a flush-fit 15-shot magazine but can accommodate larger capacity FN 509 mags with use of a sleeve.
MSRP is $799.
Ruger PC Charger

Based on the company’s popular PC Carbine, Ruger’s new feature-rich PC Charger pistol just hit the market.
Using a 6.5-inch threaded barrel and a glass-filled polymer chassis system that allows for the use of standard AR pistol grips, the takedown PC Charger is 16.5-inches long overall. Hitting the scales at 5.2-pounds, it comes with an integrated rear Picatinny rail for pistol braces.
The Charger uses a hard-coat anodized aluminum handguard with Magpul M-LOK-slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions and comes with a factory-installed handstop.
MSRP on the Ruger PC Charger is $799.
Ruger Scout in .350 Legend

Ruger has further expanded their catalog of rifles chambered for the new .350 Legend cartridge by adding a Ruger Scout Rifle to the mix.
“The straight-walled .350 Legend round is attractive for hunters who can appreciate its impressive muzzle energy and low recoil,” notes Ruger in a statement. “This new rifle chambered in .350 Legend is another bolt-action offering from Ruger that provides the rugged reliability that Ruger Scout Rifles are known for.”
With a 5-shot magazine, the Ruger Scout in .350 Legend has an MSRP of $1139 and is set to be available in any color you want– so long as that color is black.

With a fully-adjustable stock, integral bedding block system and a threaded bull barrel, the new Ruger American Rimfire Long-Range Target is here.
Billed as bridging the “gap between traditional wood stock rifles and full-featured chassis rifles,” the new rifle is described as exceptionally accurate due to the combination of a cold-hammer-forged 22-inch free-floating barrel and other features. Said enhancements include the Ruger’s in-house Marksman Adjustable Trigger which can be tuned from three-to-five pounds and a Power Bedding system.
Suggested retail on the Ruger American Rimfire Long-Range Target is $599.

New Taurus G3 Colors

Taurus has been busy expanding its new G3 series of full-sized handguns, now offering the 9mm pistol in an array of new colors.
Introduced late last year with options limited to matte black carbon steel with a Tenifer finish or a stainless steel slide over a black polymer frame, the Taurus G3 built on the company’s successful G2c series of striker-fired pistols. Now, the budget firearms maker has grown the G3 to include frame offerings in Gray, an OD Green, and Tan.
MSRP across the Taurus G3 series is officially in the $350 range, but that has proven to be closer to the $250-ish area at retailers.

CZ Shadow 2 SA

Kansas-based CZ USA in February announced their latest entry to their Shadow 2 line of competition-ready pistols, a single-action model.
On the outside, the CZ Shadow 2 SA looks like a standard Shadow 2, finished in black nitride with a set of striking blue aluminum grips and a blue trigger. However, it is a single-action billed as having one of the best factory pistol triggers on the market.

Diamondback DBX

Florida-based Diamondback Firearms has announced they will begin shipping their new DBX 5.7x28mm pistol in May.
Teased at SHOT Show earlier this year when the gun was in pre-production, the compact braced pistol uses a dual gas piston action with an 8-inch threaded barrel that ends in a muzzle device.
Overall length, with the rear Picatinny-mounted, side-folding brace extended is 25.4-inches. Folded length is 16.9-inches. Alternatively, the brace can be dismounted to provide a more compact pistol that is 16.1-inches flat.
MSRP on the Diamondback DBX is expected to be $1,299.
Honor Defense Pro9

Georgia-based Honor Defense says they have a new handgun inbound, complete with a ported slide and flat trigger– the Pro9.
Describing the new offering as “Sexy and accurate,” the Pro9 has a higher capacity than the company’s HG9 series. While the legacy HG9 offers a 7- or 8-round magazine, the Pro9 comes standard with two 10+1 capacity extended mags.
The pistol G42/43 sights and Hyve extensions fit the magazines. MSRP is not available and the Pro9 is expected to start shipping this month.

Heckler & Koch this year has a host of subtle changes coming to their popular VP9 pistol line including several important upgrades.
Perhaps the most welcome of the changes is an updated 17-round flush-fit magazine, up from the long-standard 15-round capacity mags. There is also a new sight configuration– which includes a high-visibility front sight and a “clean” black serrated rear– and an optics-ready cut for mini reflex sight.
HK says the updated VPs are already shipping, with MSRP starting around $799, a price typically lower from retailers.
Sig Sauer P220 LEGION SAO

New Hampshire-based Sig Sauer in March announced its LEGION series of pistols has grown to include a P220 model in 10mm Auto.
The Sig Sauer P220 LEGION 10mm SAO is a full-size, hammer-fired pistol with a 5-inch barrel and 8+1 capacity. The LEGION upgrade means the gun comes standard with a gray cerekoted stainless steel slide and frame, X-RAY3 day/night sights, a solid steel guide rod, enhanced checkering on the front strap and under the trigger guard, front cocking serrations and black G-10 grips. The treatment is the latest installment in the P220’s story, one which started in 1975.

Sig Sauer Tread 716i

With a lightweight direct impingement system paired with the company’s TREAD line of semi-customization, the new Sig Sauer 716i is chambered in .308 Winchester. Standard features include a free-floating M-LOK handguard, a 2-stage Matchlite Duo trigger, and an M1913 Mil-Std top-rail for optics.
Using a 16-inch barrel with a 1-in-10 twist, the overall length of the 716i is 37-inches while weight is 8.5-pounds. The barrel has 5/8X24 TPI threads for muzzle devices.
MSRP on the Sig Sauer 716i TREAD is set to be around $1,299 and the rifle ships with a single 20-round magazine. This is a good deal less than the company’s 716G2 rifles, which typically run well north of $2K.

150th Anniversary Marlins
Marlin has both limited edition rifles and ammo this year to celebrate their sesquicentennial
John Mahlon Marlin founded an iconic American firearms company in 1870 and this year Marlin Firearms is commemorating the event.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Marlin brand, the modern descendant this year will offer special editions of their classic Model 60 .22LR semi-auto rifles and the 444 Marlin lever-action rifle, along with a matching ammunition line.

New Walther CCP Colors

Arkansas-based Walther Arms on this month announced to its fans the CCP M2 series pistol is now available in new color choices.
The CCP – or Concealed Carry Pistol – first debuted in 2014 and was redesigned as the CCP M2 in late 2018. Fans who sought out the compact polymer-framed semi-auto, however, had to make do with either all-black or two-tone black and stainless models.
Those days are gone as both the 9mm and .380 ACP versions will be available in Angel Blue while the 9mm fans will also have the choice of a Blue Titanium or Tungsten version.
With a 3.54-inch barrel length, both the 9mm and .380 ACP CCP M2 hits the tape at 6.41-inches overall and weighs in at 20-ounces flat. The pistol uses a single-stack 8-round magazine.
Next Year’s NRAAM
The 149th NRA Annual Meeting and Exhibits were scheduled for April 17-19 in Nashville, Tennessee, a return to the city that hosted the event in 2015. However, the member organization pulled the plug on the event last month with the advent of the COVID-19 outbreak which upended everything from coast-to-coast.
The last NRAAM at Nashville’s Music City Center saw a crowd of 78,865 in attendance. The next scheduled event is the 150th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Houston, Texas, May 14-16, 2021, at the George R. Brown Convention Center, where the group last met in 2013.
