Farmingdale, NY -(AmmoLand.com)- The Mako Group encourages shooters and hunters to adhere to guidelines released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) noting what shooters can do in preventing wildfires all over the country.
In western American states, wildfires pose a real threat to wildlife, property and human life. There are so many accidental causes for wildfires; target shooters and hunters should know what measures they can take to reduce the chances of accidentally igniting a fire.
The NSSF recommends shooters check the fire danger level in their area before shooting begins. Fire danger levels can change from day-to-day, so it’s suggested to check daily and not rely on previous reports. It’s also advised that shooters not use steel-jacketed ammunition or ammo containing steel components, especially tracer rounds. All of the above can contribute to igniting a wildfire in dry brush. Aside from the obvious proper extinguishing of campfires, a less obvious risk for starting a wildfire is hot exhaust pipes on trucks and ATVs.
This year alone, it’s estimated that $1 billion will be used to fight wildfires—excluding costs associated with human death, property and destroyed wildlife.
