The Green Mountain Boys were a militia organization first established in the late 1760’s in the territory between the British provinces of New York and New Hampshire known as the New Hampshire Grants, which later became the state of Vermont.
Headed by Ethan Allen and members of his extended family, they played a pivotal role in the Revolutionary War. They also later played roles in the war of 1812, the Civil War and the Spanish–American War. Today, The Green Mountain Boys is still the informal name of the Vermont National Guard, which comprises both the Army and Air National Guards.
“The Green Mountain Boys is a more informal name that we take great pride in,” said Maj. Chris Gookin, a public affairs officer with the Vermont National Guard, to Guns.com.
Vermont is a patriotic state. The Green Mountain Boys Shooting Club opened in 1989 at the Ethan Allen Shooting Range in Jericho, Vermont. It quickly grew and in 2003, with the generosity of David Villeneuve, it moved to a new home deep in the Green Mountains of Eden, Vermont.
Called Camp David, it has been expanding ever since, offering countless people a place to embrace their passion for the Second Amendment. In 2006, it became an official LLC and a year later, they started accepting applications for memberships.
Every July, Camp David hosts a machine gun shoot that is second to none in the area. This event is a celebration of independence and freedom to exercise the Second Amendment. The two day shoot attracts participants from all over New England, eastern Canada and as far away as California.
If you are ever in the northeast in mid July, make sure you stop by this spectacular event. You will not be disappointed. There are plenty of guns, explosions and fireworks to put a big smile across your face.
