I recently attended the 23rd annual Friends of NRA Nutmeg Chapter Dinner at the Aquaturf in Southington, Connecticut.
It shattered all previous attendance records again, with over 1,200 gun owners and NRA members coming together to raise over $65,000 for the shooting sports.
Ray Hanley has been organizing the event for the last 23 years.
Southington is only 30 minutes from Newtown, scene of one of the worst school shootings in US history. Some people might find it strange that a gathering of gun owners this large takes place so close by. But it’s the result of the highly restrictive gun regulations that were pushed through legislation in the wake of Sandy Hook that has enlivened so many Connecticut firearm owners.
Ray Hanley firmly believes that if more people, especially children, are taught how to responsibly and safely handle firearms, society would be a better place. It’s evident that a lot of Connecticut firearm owners feel the same.
Thanks for watching.
