Newhall, CA -(AmmoLand.com)- The Third Annual 2016 Great Americans Shoot takes place at Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall, CA from September 23-25 and is aiming to surpass the previous two years’ fundraising records.
The charity sporting clay shoot has been expanded to three days to benefit the Special Forces Charitable Trust (www.specialforcescharitabletrust.org) and other military non-profits that provide support to active duty service members and veterans. Nearly $3 million has been raised since the Shoot’s inception in 2014.
The Great Americans Shoot is co-chaired by Terry English, President of the Special Forces Charitable Trust, which provides meaningful and sustainable support to the Special Forces (Green Beret) Community and their Families. English’s co-chair is Robert S. Bray, Jr., MD, noted Los Angeles area neurological spine surgeon and long time supporter of military charities.
“I can’t think of anything that is more rewarding for me and my family than our participation in the Great Americans Shoot,” said Dr. Bray. “It is extremely satisfying to know our efforts are providing real help to our fighting men and women and their families.”
The main event of the Great Americans Shoot, on Saturday September 24, is a one-of-a-kind experience. There will be twenty teams of five participating in the shoot; each team has committed to raising a minimum of $50,000. Each team will include a “6th Man” from within the Special Operations Community, who will join the shooting competition as an honorary team member.

Half of the proceeds will go to the Special Forces Charitable Trust. The other half of the proceeds will be given to the designated charities of the top five fundraising teams.

“We are honored to have Dr. Bray as my Co-Chair this year,” said English, a former Green Beret who helped found the Special Forces Charitable Trust in 2010. “Rob was our top individual top fundraiser last year, and he is setting a high bar for himself and all the teams in 2016.”
“Beyond being a great cause, the Great Americans Shoot brings together a truly unique group of people, many of whom I am proud to now call my friends,” said Dr. Bray. “I want to issue an open challenge to anyone involved or interested in this cause: Let’s really raise the bar this year.”

A new competition at the Shoot is being inaugurated this year. On Sunday, September 25, teams of sharpshooters from LAPD, the Navy SEALS, California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will compete in a three gun event. Each team will comprise of two sharpshooters, and 1 private citizen who will be chosen by a fundraising raffle.
“The Great Americans Shoot continues to grow each year, raising money and awareness for these deserving military non-profits,” said David T. Guernsey, Jr., Executive Director of Special Forces Charitable Trust. “We had 118 participants last year from New York to California supporting the Special Forces Charitable Trust and Special Operations Community, and we expect even bigger participation this year.“
