The Texas town of Longview paid Ted Nugent $16,000 to not rock out at their Fourth of July Festival because he was “not the right feel for this kind of community event.”
The city of Longview had originally scheduled Nugent to headline at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, but later changed their mind and paid the “Motor City Madman” half of his guaranteed $32,000 performance fee, Huffington Post reports.
The decision comes after The Nuge has come under fire for commenting in January that Obama was a “subhuman mongrel.” Though Nugent later apologized for his remark, Gregg County Republican Party Chair Keith Rothra believes Longview reneged on their agreement because of political correctness.
“I’m sad the city of Longview has done this,” said Rothra. “I think it was done by a great deal of political correctness, political pressure. We have various performers who have made all kinds of statements that rattled people’s conscience and yet they are still slated as performers.”
