An attempted robbery at a Laveen, Arizona, convenience store Friday night didn’t exactly turn out as planned after the teen robber was shot by the clerk.
The 17-year-old robber walked away empty-handed but is expected to survive his injuries.
The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. when the teen entered the store and demanded cash. The clerk did as instructed and retrieved money from the register. But when the suspect set down his gun to collect the loot, the clerk seized the moment, pulled out his own gun and shot the suspect.
The teen ran out of the store but didn’t get far before he stumbled and fell to the ground, where responding officers found him.
Authorities have reason to believe this wasn’t the teen’s first robbery, but also think he acted alone.
In a similar incident last week, a 17-year-old boy working at his parents’ store in Atlantic City, New Jersey, snatched a gun from a would-be robber. The robber suddenly changed his tone once the teen was in possession of the weapon, which turned out to only be a BB gun.
