Teen in custody for Alabama gun shop smash and grab (VIDEO)

A 19-year-old man is in custody for the part he played in a smash and grab burglary of a Pelham, Alabama, gun shop earlier this month.

Sidontae Tomar Harris was charged with first-degree theft of property, first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary. He is being held on a $135,000 bond.

Authorities say Harris, along with two other suspects, carjacked an individual in Ensley on Jan. 12. The following day, the stolen truck was used to ram into the storefront of Alabama Guns and Outdoors at an estimated 60 miles per hour. In less than two minutes, the suspects made off with 16 guns and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the burglary. Harris was captured two days after the crime, but it’s unknown if his apprehension was the result of a tip. The other two suspects remain at large.

Authorities recovered five of the stolen guns but eleven are still missing. The stolen truck was also recovered at the residence where Harris was arrested.

Harris has a prior criminal history, including a weapons-related charge from December 2016. In fact, Harris was out on bond at the time of the smash and grab.
