A 16-year-old girl from Ohio with terminal leukemia had an unusual bucket list item, but the Newark Police Department was happy to oblige her request to use a tazer on someone.
Alyssa Elkins said she saw a tazer used in the movies and thought it didn’t seem that bad. However, as she ticked off an item on her bucket list, she quickly learned it was much harder than Hollywood would have it appear.
“I don’t like inflicting pain on people. I didn’t know it was going to be that painful really,” Alyssa admitted after shooting volunteer Sgt. Doug Bline with the tazer.
“It is unpleasant to say the least,” Bline said. “But if for five seconds it makes somebody’s dream come true, especially someone in her situation, I think it was well worth it no matter what.”
Although she said it’s something she never wants to do again, Alyssa nonetheless expressed gratitude for being given the opportunity to experience it.
