A 16-year-old boy was shot earlier this month after he tried to hide from police by breaking into a Miami home only to find out the 82-year-old homeowner was armed with a gun.
The incident unfolded on May 12, when officers pulled over a stolen car driven by Vladimir Almaguer Sanchez, 45. As officers were apprehending Sanchez, his 16-year-old son, who was also in the car, fled on foot and led authorities on a manhunt.
While fleeing, the teen stole clothes from an outside washing machine in an effort to change his appearance. But police soon received a call from a homeowner who said he shot the teen after he broke into the man’s house.
The teen was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third person, believed to be the teen’s friend, was also apprehended.
The teen admitted to stealing the car but said he did so to go pick up his father from jail. Inside the stolen car officers found drug paraphernalia, including multiple pipes used to smoke methamphetamine.
Now, Sanchez and his son face numerous charges.
