One man was killed and two were injured in a drive-by shooting in Jackson, Mississippi, on Sunday afternoon, and witnesses say the suspect was wearing a hockey mask like the one worn by Jason Voorhees, the psychotic serial killer from the “Friday the 13th” films.
“I don’t want to speculate on why he was wearing the mask, but ultimately it’s just to hide his identity,” said Sgt. Derrick Jordan with the Jackson Police Department, although some residents of the apartment complex where the shooting occurred questioned whether there was a deeper meaning to the mask.
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. and soon thereafter dozens of family and friends of the deceased victim, 30-year-old Kendrick Hughes, filled the streets, blocking the roadway for some time.
While Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene, the two injured victims were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are not known.
At this point, police have no motive for the shooting and no possible suspects.
