Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan recently announced that she went “big-game hunting” with Justice Antonin Scalia. Not only that, Kagan said she actually killed a deer.
Kagan told how she ended up on the big game hunt with her fellow Supreme Court Justice.
“I shoot birds with him two or three times a year now. At the end of last year … he said to me, ‘It’s time for big-game hunting.’ We actually went out to Wyoming this past fall to shoot deer and antelope, and we did … I shot myself a deer.”
Apparently during the process of becoming a Supreme Court Justice, Kagan was frequently asked about her views on the Second Amendment. “They’ll say, ‘Have you ever held a gun?’” she said. “I grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and this was not something we really did.”
She then went on to explain how she became hunting buddies with Scalia and that she had promised a lawmaker that she would ask Scalia to take her hunting if she was “lucky enough to be confirmed.” What was Scalia’s response to the promise? “He thought it was hilarious, he thought it was a total crackup,” Kagan said.
