Louisville, KY -(Ammoland.com)- The Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky and the 2015 NASP National Tournament will be the destination for thousands of student archers, May 7th, 8th, and 9th.

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is a non-profit educational foundation established in 2002. This year more than 2 million students in 13,000 schools in 47 states and 10 countries participated in NASP’s in-school archery lessons.

This “culminating event” is the largest archery tournament in the world. There will be 540 student archers shooting in every flight, each hour, each day of the tournament. This is a co-gender event for students in grades 4-12 comprising teams of 12-24 archers. Each archer shoots a total of 30 arrows from distances of 10 and 15 meters for a total possible score of 300 points. The NASP National record score is 298 and is co-held by 4 male and 1 female student archer.

Several archery records will be broken in Louisville. We will break our 2014 record of 10,443 archers with nearly 12,000 participating this year. NASP Nationals will also be host to the second annual NASP/ IBO 3-D Challenge. This event is expected to set a new record as well. The previous record participation in a 3-D event is believed to be around 2,400. We expect to double that with 5,000 archers.

To underscore NASP’s educational emphasis, the National tournament and the NASP IBO 3-D Challenge will be awarding more than $100,000.00 in scholarships this year.

Since the establishment of NASP in 2002 the total number of archers in the United States has nearly tripled from about 7 million to 19 million.

About National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP)

NASP is a non-profit organization governed by a national board of directors. NASP works with states, provinces, and countries and seeks to establish partnerships with institutional partners on a state or country-wide basis. In doing so, NASP partners are asked to endorse a simple ‘Letter of Understanding’ which confirms the mutual interest in adhering to the NASP mission and these operating principles. This also confirms that NASP is a gateway activity which creates opportunity for state agencies to engage students in afterschool or special events which may include their interest in other outdoor activities.
