Idaho – -(AmmoLand.com)- I recently tested out the Spyderco Jerry Brouwer C232Gtip G10 Hunting Knife and was interested in how the knife got the name “Brouwer”? It turns up that the Spyderco Brouwer Folder C232GTI is named after a Dutchman named Jerry Brouwer. As a kid he was infatuated with knives and regularly visited a local knife shop where he passionately examined every design feature of their knives.

When he grew up, he became a corrections officer and served on an elite team that put down uprisings in prisons throughout the Netherlands. He also practiced martial arts and loved the outdoors. During the above activities he obviously used various designs of knives and settled in on what he thought was functional designs
He soon started dabbling in knife making and as time passed he became a more serious knifesmith. In that process he met the Spyderco group at a knife show in Amsterdam and they liked his Flanker knife, which was one of his most popular models. And viola’, we now have the Spyderco Brouwer Folder C232GTL which is said to strongly resemble his original Flanker design.
Now enough of history lessons. Where is little Tommie’s view of the Brouwer?
The Spyderco Jerry Brouwer C232Gtip G10 Hunting Knife is what I would call a medium sized folder. Since it has a drop point, in a pinch you could probably use it as a skinning knife.
But it’s original class would be an EDC. Myself, I like a clip point for an EDC but this one does somewhat have a point so it should suffice. I favor a 3 ½-inch blade but for those of you that like a smaller blade then this 2 3/8-inch blade should keep you happy.
The blade is made out of CPM-S30V stainless steel. As with other Sypderco’s, it has an index finger choil. Like a few other of their knives I’ve tested it has a green G10 textured handle on one side but on the other is solid titanium scale. I’ve grown to like G10 handles.
I like the locking system. The R.I.L. includes a stainless-steel interface that also serves as an overtravel stop which helps preserve the proper tension on the lock bar. A lot of liner locks are pretty stiff and hard to unlock without almost breaking your thumb nail. This locking system is surprisingly easy to unlock.
As on most of the folding Spyderco’s that I test, you can choke down on the knife and have total control. The first 1/2-inch of the spine has thumb grooves to increase control. The bottom of the blade has a finger groove to allow you to choke down.
The Spyderco Brouwer Folder C232GTI comes with a pocket clip that is reversible and holds the tip up so when you pull it out it is ready for action. It also has a lined hole to tie on a lanyard if so desired.
So to summarize, if you’re looking for a sleek, comfortable EDC you need to check out the Spyderco Jerry Brouwer C232Gtip G10 Hunting Knife. It is less than 3/8-inches thick and of midrange size and as with all Sypderco’s, it comes from the factory razor sharp. All of this for a MSRP of $269.95 (less $$ online).
