Pierre, SD -(Ammoland.com)-The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission proposed to re-open the mountain goat hunting season at their March meeting. This proposal includes two available licenses and would mark the first time in nine years that the state has had a mountain goat hunting season.
The proposed season would run from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31 and include the portions of Pennington and Custer counties west of Highway 79; excluding Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Jewel Cave National Monument and the fenced portions of Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park.
Successful applicants for the mountain goat season would be required to attend a pre-hunt meeting on the day before the season opens at the GFP regional office in Rapid City.
The Commission will finalize this proposal during their April 1-2 meeting at the Brookings Days Inn in Brookings.
