Covering advanced ballistics to basic hand tool usage and gun laws to gunsmithing, the comprehensive Associate of Science degree in Firearms Technology program prepares students for personal development and/or employment in the custom gun trade, from entry-level employees to small business owners. Students learn about custom firearms, stocks, rifles, handguns, shotguns, metal refinishing, ballistics, metal work and engraving, and business principles necessary to become a gunsmith. This 60-semester-hour program is the most comprehensive of all SDI’s School of Firearms Technology programs, and is one of only a handful of firearms degree programs in the nation.
The SDI AR-15 Advanced Armorer and AR-10 Advanced Armorer courses deliver a comprehensive review on these two AR rifle platforms, from history to accessories to parts and functions, and instructs students on building and milling their own 80-percent Lower Receiver. The courses also provide instructions on how to finish building the rifles and students are eligible for manufacturer discounts to obtain parts.
