Manufacturer to release limited number of commemorative Tech Bowies and Tridents
Lynnwood, WA. – SOG® Specialty Knives and Tools will kick off 2016 by celebrating its 30th Anniversary. As part of the salute to three decades of producing some of the world’s most sought after knives and tools, SOG will be issuing commemorative editions of two of its most iconic knives; the Tech Bowie (fixed blade) and the Trident (folding blade).
SOG’s commemorative Tech Bowie fixed-blade, has a 6.4”-inch blade and an easy gripping Kraton rubber handle. Made with AUS-8 steel, the sleek lines of the Tech Bowie reminisce to the original SOG knife used by U.S. Special Operation groups in the jungles of Vietnam.
Retail: $280
The Trident is SOG’s folder in the commemorative pair. Featuring the patented SOG Assisted Technology for a quick and smooth opening, a 3.75-inch AUS-8 steel blade and a seatbelt cutter built into the handle, the Trident has gained popularity for its versatility and practical applications. Retail: $216
“The Tech Bowie and Trident have consistently been among our most popular knives,” said Nando Zucchi, SOG’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “It makes sense to put this anniversary twist on two of our exemplary favorites.”
Both of the special edition knives feature tiger stripe camouflage pattern on the blades – an homage to the camouflage pattern used by the MACV-SOG group. Each of the knives are numbered, engraved with 30th anniversary logo and have both the current and original SOG logos.
Additionally, each knife comes in a wood display box with a commemorative patch, challenge coin and certificate signed by SOG founder, Spencer Frazer.
SOG will only produce 300 of each knife; and the limited edition blades will be available at www.sogknives.com and at select retailers beginning in February 2016.
HISTORY:
Frazer began SOG in 1986 by selling a replica version of the Japanese Bowie Knife used by an elite Special Forces military group from the Vietnam era – the Studies and Observation Group. That one knife, first advertised in Soldier of Fortune magazine, launched a company that now produces the favorite models of specialty knives and tools used by the military, law enforcement, industrial tradesmen and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. As SOG turns 30 in 2016, the company brings to the market new offerings in knives, multi tools and tactical transport packs.
“It’s amazing to see how SOG has grown from its humble start 30 years ago,” said Frazer. “My goal in the beginning was simply to produce quality products that honored their military history. It still is, and I never would have dreamt that SOG would become what it is today – a brand synonymous with high end men’s gear and distributed throughout the world. It’s thanks to our customers that made this possible.”
