Albuquerque, NM –-(Ammoland.com)- Please check out this great video of the brand new Smith & Wesson M&P Shield handgun.

If you’re curious how this gun stacks up in the real world against the Glock 26 or the Walther PPS then this video is for you.

In my assessment, the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield appears to be one of the more interesting product announcements to come out of the 2012 NRA convention that was recently held in St. Louis. With this announcement Smith & Wesson has thrown their hat into the ever crowding compact pistol arena.

The M&P Shield is a striker fired weapon and is just .95 inches wide by 4.6 inches high and is just 6.1 inches long.

It weighs 19oz. and comes chambered in either 9mm or .40 S&W. The feature that grabbed my attention is the thumb safety on the left side of the frame.  I know some people who absolutely hate the protrusion of a thumb safety on a carry gun.

However, by the dimensions stated on the Smith  & Wesson website this is indeed a gun intended for those needing a backup gun or just a very concealable pistol for those who can do so legally.

Besides its impressive concealable dimensions this pistol seems to have a great trigger that the video also touches upon.

Smith & Wesson states that the trigger has a “consistent” 6.5 pound pull that has a quick and audible reset.

If you’re lucky, you may already find one of these pistols in your local gun shop.  Smith & Wesson shipped out a bunch before they actually made the announcement at the convention.

When I heard this news I made sure to call my favorite gun shop to see if they had one in stock. To my dismay they told me I was two days too late!  They had already sold the two they had ordered.  Bummer.

Maybe next time.  I really want to see how awesome this trigger really is.
