An El Paso, Texas, business offered a Valentine’s Day alternative for gun-loving couples and, according to Sportsman’s Elite co-owner Michael Perkins, the event was a success.
“We have a quick shooting contest for couples and camaraderie afterward with some cocktails and hors d’oeuvres,” Perkins explained.
It’s the fifth year in a row the business has sponsored the event and the third year in a row that Cher and Mike Ryan have attended. Cher says it’s just more fun than going out to dinner.
The targets, of course, have heart-shaped centers and couples must work together in order to shoot out the red centers. Cher said she shot a 9mm, while Mike shot a .45.
Perkins said couples aren’t required to be expert marksmen to participate but couples tend to be a bit competitive with one another.
“It makes it a little bit more interesting. I’m surprised every year with the people in terms of their shooting ability,” Ryan added.
Perkins said Shot Through the Heart is one of the business’ more popular events. About 40 couples participated this year.
