The 20-year-old British man who planned to assassinate Donald Trump at a Las Vegas rally in June apparently visited a gun range just one day prior to familiarize himself with a firearm.
Michael Sandford, who was in the United States illegally at the time of the incident, can be seen on surveillance video trying his hand at a Glock 17. The next day, Sandford approached Trump, under the guise of wanting an autograph, before attempting to grab a nearby police officer’s gun. He was quickly apprehended.
Sandford, who said he planned the assassination for a year and was prepared to die carrying it out if necessary, was charged with being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting a public function, for which he pleaded guilty last month. He was sentenced to two years in prison, but his mother said her son is autistic and needs help, not prison time.
