A gun safety measure has added one of the biggest names in hollywood to its roster and it aims to use “fiction to fight reality.”
Director Martin Scorsese is supporting the Gun Neutral campaign, which will destroy a real firearm every time a fake one is used on screen, NBC News reported.
The campaign is similar to carbon-offsetting, said founder Carl McCrow, whose art work was weaved into the shooting of “Tomorrow,” a film about a soldier’s struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder that Scorsese is credited as a producer on.
McCrow hopes his partnership with the movie will convince other producers to collaborate with and donate to his charity, One Less Gun, which destroys weapons found in war zones.
“I’m really pleased,” McCrow said to The Independent. “If we can set this as a standard, then who knows how many lives could be saved. The simple fact is that there are too many guns and they ruin people’s lives every day.”
