BOZEMAN, Mont. (Ammoland.Com) – On this week’s Leupold’s Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg, Newberg leads long time hunting partner, Bernie Kuntz, on a New Mexico antelope hunt. A Marine who served in the Vietnam war, Kuntz has difficulty walking due to multiple surgeries, and he luckily drew a self-guided mobility impaired antelope tag. Leading advocate for the self-guided hunter, Randy Newberg, Hunter, is tagging along on this adventure.

“One of my favorite things in the world is antelope hunting in New Mexico. The Plains of San Augustine is known for big antelope,” said Newberg. “For me, getting people out hunting who thought their hunting days were over – or at least closing fast – is the best experience. In fact, the experience probably means more for me than Bernie.”
Kuntz is a Marine who spent a year in a reconnaissance unit in Vietnam. He was a precision rifle shooter. Unfortunately, due to multiple leg and hip surgeries, Kuntz has difficulty walking, so most of the hunt focuses on those pronghorn accessible to a hunter with serious mobility challenges.”
They’ve been following a large buck when they suddenly spot a group of hunters with a guide off in the distance. They closed in on the antelope and realize both groups are following the same animal. The other hunters get the chance at the large buck first and two days of tracking the same animal head down the drain.
“Competition from hunters happens on public lands,” said Newberg. “We just need to hit the reset button and go after other bucks we spotted before.”
