Remington introduces Model 1911 R1 Enhanced as First Competitive Shooting Pistol

About a year ago, the folks at Remington started to make noises about developing a new 3-gun pistol for the competitive shooting crowd, and much watercooler talk was enjoyed by all over the news.  Then, back in January, we got our first peek at the new addition to their 1911 line, the Model 1911 R1 Enhanced.  Well, this appears to be the gun they were murmuring about a year ago.

We’ve always thought there was something admirably unique about Remington’s riffs on the world’s archetypal handgun design.  For starters Remington’s 1911s are sleek—almost feminine in the best sense of the word.  They represent a much more subtle departure from gospel than most of the 1911s you see on the market.  Now compare that to their new Enhanced model.

To paraphrase the good folks in Ilion, New York, the Model 1911 R1 Enhanced represents Remington’s first no-holds-barred attempt at a competition handgun and singular word used to describe changes to what was already a pretty competitive shooter friendly 1911line is “aggressive”.  Extreme serrations on the slide and a highly adjustable, highly visible “danger red” fiber-optic front sight round out a match trigger, wide thumb safety, faster hammer and heavier patterned custom grips—clearly all features that would be appreciated in the heat of competition. It retains a beavertail grip safety with a checkered memory bump, thumb groove, ambidextrous cut and stainless steel finish.  Fitted with a two capacity bumper pad gun, included in the kit, the gun holds eight rounds.

We have no clue when Remington is going to release this gun into the wild but expect to pay around $900 if you want one.  You can check out more on Remington’s website here.
