Henrico, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- It’s official, the new National Wild Turkey Federation Virginia Record Gobbler was harvested April 11 by Dustin Plummer in Goochland County having 7 beards.
This rare gobbler ranks #21 nationally as the biggest Eastern wild turkey. The seven beards totaled 61.75 inches in length and the spurs were 1 5/8 inches and 1 3/16 inches. The total score was 167.75 beating the previous record of 162 set by Emit Deel Dickenson County gobbler back in 1996.
“Less than 10% of wild male turkeys have multiple beards and toms with 6 or more beards are extremely rare.”
“As Dustin approached his harvest he immediately noticed that his gobbler had several beards and with a closer examination he began to realize just how unique this Goochland County Spring Gobbler was as he counted 7 individual beards.”
