Three flags are being flown outside of the Tulsa Public Schools headquarters building, but the third one – a rainbow flag which is barely even visible from the street – is causing a bit of controversy.
The school superintendent is the one who put the gay pride flag below the American flag and Oklahoma flag, and confirmed it’s simply a means of showing support for those affected by the Orlando nightclub shooting.
While most of the residents who talked with local media said they supported the gesture, a quick look at some of the Facebook comments on the news story shows otherwise. Some question why the school district is displaying an object which they perceive to be a political statement, while others question the need for division, essentially stating we are all Americans and encompassed under the one flag.
