Waco, TX -(AmmoLand.com)- Longtime quail hunters in Texas are striving to conserve and promote wildlife habitat for bobwhite quail with the formation of the Heart o’ Texas Chapter of Quail Forever in McLennan, Bosque, and Bell counties.

Chapter volunteers are focusing their efforts on habitat improvements throughout central Texas, with an overarching goal to provide future generations the opportunity to hunt quail in the Lone Star State.

“Located to the south of Waco are millions of acres of potential quail habitat that can produce a bounty of birds when weather conditions are conducive for quail production,” stated Laura McIver, regional representative for Quail Forever in Texas. “The Heart o’ Texas Chapter of Quail Forever is prepared to create meaningful habitat projects which will contribute to the quail boom in years with increased precipitation. The Heart o’ Texas Chapter of Quail Forever is primed to restore a passion for quail and upland hunting in central Texas.”

Texas’ bobwhite quail populations have seen a major rebound in the last two years with some of the highest recorded quail surveys in specific regions since 1978. Since 2011, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has been working with federal, state, and private partners to fulfill the Upland Game Bird Strategic Plan – a five year roadmap that was developed to ensure the preservation of upland game birds in Texas and their diverse natural habitat for present and future generations. Local chapters of Quail Forever in Texas, including the Heart o’ Texas chapter, hope to work closely with state agencies and other partners to help complete the initiative and positively impact quail numbers in subsequent years.
