Colorado – -(Ammoland.com)- Everyone knows that they have the right to bear arms and protect their home from a home invasion, but many homeowners do not realize that they need to protect themselves, as well.

Just because you have a gun in the home doesn’t’ mean that you are going to be able to protect the home from an intruder, if you do not take the time to protect yourself.

There are times when intruders know that someone is in the home when they break into it. Depending on what they are there for, there is a good chance that they will be waiting in the shadows to stop you from spoiling their plan. This is when the right body armor comes into play. You need to have body armor, just in case the crooks have a weapon or they get your weapon away from you. Wrestling matches have broken out in homes when the robbers tried to get the gun out of the homeowner’s hand. If the gun accidentally goes off and shoots you in the chest, you will not be able to protect your family, if you are not wearing body armor.

You want to be sure that you choose body armor that is affordable and lightweight. You do not need to invest in level III or IV body armor because the likelihood of someone coming into your home with heavy artillery is slim to none. You want to be sure that you have enough protection to ensure that if you are shot by a handgun or stabbed, that you will survive. Type II body armor is usually sufficient for a homeowner because it offers protection from 357 Magnums and 9 mm. This is important because many people will have handguns when they break into a home because they are lightweight and fairly easy to fire, if needed.

When buying the body armor, there are some homeowners that choose to buy protection for every member of their family. If you feel that there is a good chance that your home will be the target of an robbery or attack, this may be an investment worth making. On average most homes do not have to worry about that threat and buying a vest for the family member that will be protecting the home is really the only investment worth making. The body armor is available in a variety of sizes and prices. It is important to make sure that you take the protection offered by the vest into account, instead of only worrying about the cost of the body armor. Investing in great body armor could save you and your family one day.

You need to be sure that you store your body armor in a place that is easy for you to find when needed. You should run drills on a regular basis to see how long it takes for you to be able to get the vest on, even in the dead of night. This will allow you to be sure that you are ready to protect yourself, if an intruder were to come into your home.
