However, as useful a tool that tree stands can be to a hunter, they do bring extra dangers into the equation.

Don’t forget: Pick a straight tree that appears to be healthy and strong. Make sure it is appropriately sized for the stand that you are using. When setting your tree stand up, use a fall-arrest system rated for your hunting weight along with a lineman’s-style belt to stay secured to the tree.
Attach your fall-arrest system before installing your stand in order to remain secured to the tree while positioning and securing the stand to the tree. Always use three points of contact when climbing for a secure fit.
